Activating Dark Theme on Desktop
The desktop browser interface allows you to instantly rewrite the CSS architecture of the dashboard.
- Open Google Keep in your preferred web browser.
- Look at the absolute top-right of the dashboard interface. Locate the Settings icon (it visually resembles a mechanical gear).
- Click the icon to deploy the dropdown menu.
- In the exact center of the menu, you will see a toggle explicitly labeled Enable Dark theme.
- Click the toggle.
The exact millisecond you click, the CSS engine executes a global inversion. The blinding white background drops to a deep, mathematically precise dark grey, and all black text instantly inverts to a high-contrast white. Your color-coded notes will automatically dynamically shift to muted, pastel versions of their original colors to maintain legibility without burning the retinas.
Activating Dark Theme on Mobile (Android/iOS)
The mobile application architecture handles themes differently. It defaults to following your smartphone’s system-level OS settings.
- Open the Google Keep mobile app.
- Tap the Hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner.
- Tap Settings in the slide-out menu.
- Locate the Theme section.
- You can force it to Dark (permanently overriding the OS), Light (permanently blinding), or System default (which allows the app to dynamically switch to Dark Mode at sunset if your OS is configured to do so).
