If you are giving a live presentation and need to demonstrate a new corporate website, a live dashboard (like Google Analytics), or a web-based software tool, the standard practice is to place a hyperlink on your slide. When you click the link, PowerPoint clumsily minimizes, your default web browser opens on top of it, and you have to awkwardly juggle two different applications on the projector screen.
This breaks the immersion of your presentation and looks highly unprofessional. Instead of leaving PowerPoint, you can actually embed a fully functional, interactive, live web browser directly onto the canvas of your slide. You can click links, scroll, and type into the website while remaining entirely within your full-screen Slide Show.
Step 1: Install the Web Viewer Add-in
Because embedding live HTML is a massive security risk, Microsoft removed native iFrame support from PowerPoint years ago. To get this functionality back safely, you must use an official Add-in from the Microsoft Store.
- Open your PowerPoint presentation.
- Look at the main ribbon at the top of the screen and click on the Insert tab.
- In the “Add-ins” group, click on the button labeled Get Add-ins.
- A small Microsoft Store window will pop up. In the search bar, type Web Viewer and press Enter.
- Look for the official “Web Viewer” add-in (usually developed by Microsoft) and click the Add button next to it.
Step 2: Configure the Browser Object
Once you click Add, a massive blue square will instantly appear on your current slide. This is your embedded browser.
- Click the corners of the blue square and drag them to resize the browser window so it fits perfectly on your slide layout.
- In the center of the blue square, you will see a text box asking for a URL.
- Crucial Limitation: Because of modern web security protocols, this Add-in will only accept secure websites. You cannot type
http://. You must type a securehttps://URL. - Type the URL of your live dashboard (e.g.,
wikipedia.org– note that you do not need to type the https:// part, as it is hardcoded to the left of the box). - Click the Preview button in the bottom right corner of the box.
The Result
The blue setup screen will vanish, and the live website will instantly render directly on your slide.
Press F5 to launch your presentation into full-screen mode.
When you navigate to this specific slide, you are not just looking at a screenshot. The website is fully alive. You can use your mouse to scroll down the page, click on internal links, and even type credentials into a login box—all while your corporate PowerPoint header and footer remain perfectly visible on the edges of the slide. It provides a seamless, professional experience without ever forcing you to Alt-Tab out of your presentation.
