Everyone clicks their mouse at a different speed. If you find that Windows 11 is constantly opening files when you only meant to select them (because it interpreted two slow clicks as a single double-click), or if you are struggling to click fast enough to open a folder, you can easily adjust the mouse sensitivity to perfectly match your natural rhythm.
Modifying the double-click speed is one of the most effective ways to make Windows 11 feel more responsive and comfortable for daily use.
How to Adjust Mouse Double-Click Speed
While Windows 11 has a modern Settings app, the double-click speed is still governed by the classic Mouse Properties window.
- Open the Settings app (Windows Key + I).
- In the left sidebar, click on Bluetooth & devices.
- Click on Mouse.
- Scroll down to the “Related settings” section at the bottom of the page and click on Additional mouse settings.
- A classic “Mouse Properties” window will appear. Ensure you are on the Buttons tab at the top.
- Look for the section labeled Double-click speed.
- Click and drag the slider left towards Slow or right towards Fast.
How to Test Your New Speed
Before you close the window, it is crucial to test your new settings. Right next to the slider, you will see a small icon of a yellow folder.
Double-click that yellow folder using your normal, natural clicking speed. If the folder opens (and an animation plays showing files spilling out), your speed is calibrated correctly. If the folder does not open, your double-click speed is set too fast, and you should drag the slider slightly to the left and try again.
Once you are satisfied with the test, click Apply and then OK to save your changes system-wide.
