5 Ways to Open the Task Manager in Windows 11

The Task Manager is one of the most essential tools in Windows 11. It allows you to force close frozen apps, monitor your CPU and RAM usage, and disable programs that slow down your startup time. Because it is so important, Microsoft has provided several different ways to open it. Here are five of the quickest methods.

1. The Keyboard Shortcut (Fastest Method)

If your computer is completely frozen and you cannot move your mouse, this keyboard shortcut will still open the Task Manager instantly: Ctrl + Shift + Esc. This is by far the most direct way to launch it.

2. The Taskbar Context Menu

With recent updates to Windows 11, Microsoft has brought back a fan-favourite feature from Windows 10. Simply right-click on any empty space on your Taskbar at the bottom of the screen, and select Task Manager from the small context menu that appears.

3. The Power User Menu (Win + X)

The Start button hides a secret “Power User” menu filled with system utilities.

  • Right-click the Start button (or press Win + X on your keyboard).
  • Click on Task Manager in the list that pops up.

4. The CTRL + ALT + DELETE Screen

This is the classic method that has existed for decades. Pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete will bring up a full-screen security menu, which interrupts all other processes (very useful if a full-screen game has crashed). From this screen, simply click Task Manager.

5. Using Windows Search

If you prefer typing, you can just click the Start button, type Task Manager, and press Enter to launch the app from the search results.
