Apple computers ship with beautiful, ultra-high-resolution Retina displays. While the text is sharp and clear, the default black mouse pointer is incredibly tiny. If you are using a large 27-inch iMac or a massive external 4K monitor, simply trying to find where your cursor is hiding can become a daily source of frustration. Instead of aggressively wiggling your mouse to spot the movement, you can permanently change the cursor’s size and color to make it impossible to lose.
How to Make the Cursor Larger
Apple includes powerful cursor customization tools, but they are hidden away inside the Accessibility menu.
- Click the Apple Logo in the top left corner of your screen.
- Select System Settings from the dropdown menu (or System Preferences on older Macs).
- In the left-hand sidebar, scroll down and click on Accessibility.
- In the main window on the right, click on Display (located under the “Vision” section).
- Scroll down until you find the Pointer section.
You will see a horizontal slider labeled Pointer size. Click and drag the slider to the right. The cursor will instantly grow in real-time. You can make it slightly larger for comfort, or you can drag it all the way to “Large,” creating a massive, oversized arrow that is impossible to miss.
How to Change the Cursor Color
While making the cursor larger helps, a black arrow can still camouflage itself against a dark “Dark Mode” application window or a shadowy desktop wallpaper. To truly make it stand out, you should change its color to something unnatural.
Directly beneath the size slider in that exact same menu, you will see two color options:
- Pointer outline color: This controls the thin border around the arrow (default is white).
- Pointer fill color: This controls the main body of the arrow (default is black).
Click the color swatch next to Pointer fill color to open the color picker palette. Choose a bright, highly contrasting color. A vibrant neon pink, a toxic bright green, or a stark yellow are excellent choices. A massive, neon pink cursor will instantly contrast against any website or application, ensuring you never have to hunt for your mouse pointer ever again.
