The Control Centre in macOS (accessed by clicking the two small toggles icon in the top right corner of the menu bar) provides quick access to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and screen brightness. However, you are not stuck with Apple’s default layout. You can easily customize the Control Centre to add useful modules like Hearing (for AirPods), Fast User Switching, or keyboard brightness, while removing tools you never use.
How to Add or Remove Modules
Customization is handled exclusively through the System Settings app.
- Click the Apple Logo in the top-left corner of your screen.
- Select System Settings… from the dropdown menu.
- Scroll down the left-hand sidebar and click on Control Centre.
- The main window will now display a list of every possible module available. They are broken down into categories like “Control Centre Modules” and “Other Modules.”
- To add a new tool (like “Hearing”), find it in the list and click the dropdown menu next to it.
- Change the setting to Show in Control Centre.
Pinning Items to the Menu Bar
If you use a specific Control Centre module constantly (for example, the Bluetooth toggle or the Sound output selector), you don’t actually need to open the Control Centre every time.
In the exact same settings menu, you can select Show in Menu Bar. This will extract that specific icon from the Control Centre and pin it permanently to the top right of your screen, right next to the clock, providing instantaneous access to your most vital settings.
