How to View Saved Passwords in Microsoft Edge

The Convenience of the Built-In Password Manager

Modern web browsers are incredibly efficient at remembering our login credentials. If you use Microsoft Edge as your primary browser, it likely asks you to “Save password?” every time you log into a new website or create a new account.

While this feature is incredibly convenient, it can also create a false sense of security. Over time, you begin to rely entirely on the browser’s auto-fill feature. Because the browser fills in the passwords for you, you eventually forget what the actual passwords are.

This becomes a serious problem if you ever need to log into that same website on a different computer, on your mobile phone, or if you decide to switch to a different browser like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Fortunately, Microsoft Edge securely stores all your login credentials in a built-in password manager that you can access at any time.

How to Find Your Saved Passwords in Edge

Viewing your saved passwords requires you to navigate into the Edge settings menu. Because these are highly sensitive security credentials, Windows will require you to verify your identity before it reveals the actual passwords.

1. Open the Microsoft Edge web browser on your Windows PC or Mac.
2. Look at the very top right corner of the browser window and click the three horizontal dots (…). This opens the main menu.
3. Near the bottom of the dropdown list, click on Settings.
4. In the new Settings tab, look at the left-hand navigation pane and ensure you are on the Profiles tab (this is usually selected by default).
5. In the main window under the “Your profile” section, click on the box labeled Passwords (it has a small key icon next to it).

You are now inside the Edge Password Manager. Scroll down until you see a section labeled Saved passwords. This is a complete alphabetical list of every single website you have ever saved a password for.

How to Reveal the Hidden Passwords

For obvious security reasons, Microsoft Edge displays the website URL and your username clearly, but the actual password is hidden behind a row of black dots.

1. Find the specific website you need the password for in the list.
2. Look to the right side of that entry and click the icon shaped like a small eye with a slash through it (the “Show password” button).
3. A Windows Security prompt will instantly appear on your screen.
4. You must now verify your identity. Enter the exact same PIN, fingerprint, facial recognition, or Microsoft account password that you use to log into your computer when you turn it on.

Once you authenticate successfully, the black dots will vanish, revealing the actual text of your password. If you need to copy it, you can click the small “Copy” icon right next to the eye.

How to Delete or Edit a Saved Password

If you recently changed a password for a website and Edge keeps attempting to log you in with the old one, you can manually update the record.

1. In the Saved Passwords list, find the incorrect entry.
2. Click the three horizontal dots (…) located on the far right side of that specific entry.
3. To completely wipe the record from the browser, select Delete.
4. To update the password with the new version, select Edit. You will be prompted to authenticate with your Windows PIN again. A small window will appear allowing you to manually type in the correct, updated password and click Save.

Security Note: If you are using a shared family computer or a public workstation, you should never allow the browser to save your passwords. Anyone who knows the computer’s main login PIN can easily access your Edge settings and read your banking or social media passwords.
