You can easily send emails from a different address or an alias directly from your Gmail account. This is incredibly useful if you want to use non-Gmail addresses as aliases, such as your Outlook, Yahoo, school, or business email addresses, all from a single inbox.
How to Send Email as an Alias in Gmail
Follow these steps to configure an alias in your Gmail settings:
- Open Gmail and click the Settings icon (the gear icon) in the top right corner.
- Click on the See all settings button.
- Navigate to the Accounts and import tab at the top.
- In the Send mail as section, click on the Add another email address link.
- In the new window that appears, enter your Name and the Email address that you want to add as an alias. Ensure that the “Treat as an alias” box is checked.
- Click Next Step and then click Send Verification.
- For a business or school email, you will likely have to enter the SMTP Server details (for example,
smtp.gmail.comorsmtp.school.edu) along with the Username and Password of that specific email account. - An email with a confirmation code will be sent to your alias email. Log in to that email account and click on the verification link in the confirmation email to verify that you own the alias address.
Using Your New Alias
Once verified, you can instantly start sending emails using your alias address. When composing a new email or replying to an existing one, simply click the From line in the composer window and select the alias email address you want to send it from.
Did you know? You can add and manage up to 99 different email addresses within a single Gmail account.
