Your computer can become slow and unresponsive during boot due to a number of background programmes launching automatically at startup. By disabling startup programmes that use the most memory, you can significantly speed up your computer’s boot time.
How to Disable Startup Programmes in Windows 10/11
There are two simple ways to stop applications from opening automatically when you start your PC.
Method 1: Using the Task Manager
- Open the Task Manager by pressing
Ctrl + Shift + Escon your keyboard. - Select the Startup tab at the top.
- Locate and select the programme you want to disable.
- Right-click it and choose Disable from the context menu (or click the Disable button at the bottom right).
Method 2: Using Windows Settings
Alternatively, you can manage your startup apps through the Windows Settings menu:
- Go to the Start menu and click on the gear icon to open Settings.
- Navigate to Apps > Startup.
- You will see a list of applications. Simply turn Off the toggle switch for any app that you don’t want to run at startup.
