How to Customise, Resize, and Organise Control Centre in iOS 18 on iPhone

For years, the Control Centre on iOS remained a rigid, single-page grid of small square buttons and sliders. While you could add or remove a few pre-approved Apple toggles through the Settings app, you could not reorder items freely, change widget dimensions, integrate third-party applications, or create dedicated categorical screens. Swiping down from the top-right corner meant interacting with whatever layout Apple decided was standard.

With the release of iOS 18, Apple completely rebuilt the Control Centre into a fluid, modular, and deeply personalizable command system. You can now resize individual controls using corner grab handles, swipe smoothly between multiple specialized pages (such as dedicated Media and Home panels), and add custom third-party quick actions. This guide walks you through mastering the new iOS 18 Control Centre.

Key New Features in the iOS 18 Control Centre

The updated architecture introduces unprecedented customization freedom:

  • Multi-Page Paged Layout: Control Centre now spans multiple distinct vertical screens accessible via quick edge swipes or tapping right-hand navigation glyphs.
  • Modular Resizing: Controls are no longer locked into 1×1 squares; you can expand them into 2×1 pills, 2×2 squares, or full-width banners.
  • Third-Party Controls Gallery: External developers can now publish quick toggles and shortcuts directly into the Control Centre library.
  • Lock Screen Replacement: Any control available in the gallery can now also be pinned to replace the Flashlight or Camera buttons on your iPhone Lock Screen.

Entering Control Centre Edit Mode

Customizing your controls is now handled directly on the screen rather than buried in the Settings app:

  1. Swipe down from the top-right corner of your iPhone display to summon Control Centre.
  2. Look at the top-left corner and tap the + (Plus) button (or touch and hold any empty background area).
  3. The entire grid will enter edit mode: existing controls will dim slightly, small minus (-) removal badges will appear, and resize handles will activate.

Adding and Resizing Controls

To populate your layout with useful tools:

  1. In edit mode, tap Add a Control at the bottom of the screen to open the full Control Gallery.
  2. Browse categories such as Accessibility, Connectivity, Display & Brightness, Media, or search for specific third-party apps.
  3. Tap any control to drop it onto your active page.
  4. To Resize: Touch and drag the rounded corner grab handle on the bottom-right of the control tile. Expand it into a wide pill or large card to surface extra buttons or information.
  5. To Move: Touch and drag the control anywhere on the grid; surrounding buttons will fluidly flow around your placement.
  6. Tap anywhere on the empty background to exit edit mode and save your arrangement.

Navigating and Creating Multiple Control Pages

Along the right margin of Control Centre, you will notice miniature page icons:

  1. Swipe down to glide between preset pages:
    • Favourites: Your primary operational dashboard for daily toggles.
    • Music / Media: A dedicated full-page interactive media player with album art and AirPlay controls.
    • Home & Smart Accessories: A full dashboard of rooms, cameras, and scenes from Apple Home.
    • Connectivity: An expanded communication hub for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirDrop, Personal Hotspot, and VPNs.
  2. Creating a Custom Page: In edit mode, scroll down to the bottom empty page dot and place new controls on it. A brand-new dedicated page is created automatically.

Removing Unwanted Buttons

To eliminate controls you never use:

  1. Enter edit mode by tapping the + button.
  2. Tap the white – (Minus) badge on any unnecessary control.
  3. The button will vanish immediately, leaving your layout clean and clutter-free.
