The Ocular Strain Vector
Staring into a predominantly white, brightly illuminated smartphone screen in a dark bedroom will severely disrupt your circadian rhythm and cause immediate ocular fatigue. Furthermore, if you own a modern iPhone featuring an OLED display (where black pixels are physically turned off), rendering massive white backgrounds consumes significantly more battery power. You must invert the operating system’s global colour palette to a dark grey and absolute black aesthetic.
How to Turn On Dark Mode
Apple integrated a master aesthetic switch into the Display & Brightness settings, allowing you to instantly transform the entire iOS interface and all compatible third-party applications simultaneously.
1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
2. Scroll down the main list of options and tap on Display & Brightness (it features a blue icon containing two white letter As).
3. Look at the absolute top of the screen. You will see two large visual representations of the iPhone interface under the “Appearance” heading.
4. Tap the circle underneath the image labelled Dark.
5. The Instantaneous Shift: The entire Settings menu will instantly invert. The stark white background will become absolute black, and the black text will flip to white.
6. The Automation Protocol (Highly Recommended): Rather than manually toggling this switch twice a day, look directly beneath the Light/Dark options and locate the toggle switch labelled Automatic. Turn it On.
7. A new “Options” button will appear beneath it. Tap it.
8. Select Sunset to Sunrise.
The iPhone will now utilize its internal clock and your GPS coordinates to automatically engage Dark Mode the exact moment the sun sets in your physical location, and revert to Light Mode at dawn, requiring zero manual intervention.
