How to Turn Off Chrome Notifications in Windows 11

The Intrusive Alert Vector

Modern websites frequently prompt you to “allow notifications” the exact second you load their homepage. If you accidentally click “Allow,” that website is granted permission to push alerts directly to your Windows 11 desktop, even when Chrome is minimized. This is a common tactic used by spam websites to bombard your screen with fake virus alerts or aggressive advertisements. You must explicitly severe Chrome’s ability to communicate with the Windows 11 notification centre.

How to Turn Off Chrome Notifications

You can execute a system-level block within Windows 11, completely deafening the operating system to any alerts generated by the Google Chrome executable.

1. Open the Start Menu and click the Settings gear icon (or press the Windows Key + I).
2. In the left-hand sidebar, click on System.
3. In the main pane, click on Notifications.
4. Scroll down the page until you reach the section titled Notifications from apps and other senders.
5. You will see a long, alphabetical list of every application installed on your computer capable of sending alerts.
6. Scroll down until you locate Google Chrome.
7. Click the toggle switch next to Google Chrome to move it to the Off position.

The blockade is instantaneous. Chrome is now entirely forbidden from rendering pop-ups on your desktop. Alternative Method (Browser-Level): If you want to stop the “allow notifications” prompts from appearing in the first place, open Chrome, go to Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Notifications, and select Don’t allow sites to send notifications.
