How to Disable Push Notifications for Specific Websites in Chrome

The Accidental Opt-In Vector

While browsing rapidly, it is incredibly easy to accidentally click “Allow” on a website’s notification prompt. Once granted, that specific website possesses the systemic authority to push alerts, advertisements, or breaking news directly to your operating system’s notification center, even when you do not have the browser open. If you have mistakenly subscribed to a spam-heavy news portal or an overly aggressive online store, you must manually revoke their access to restore peace to your desktop.

How to Revoke Specific Website Notifications

Chrome provides a centralised dashboard where you can audit and permanently sever a specific website’s ability to push notifications to your device.

1. Open Google Chrome.
2. Click the three vertical dots in the extreme top-right corner to open the main menu.
3. Select Settings.
4. In the left-hand navigation pane, click on Privacy and security.
5. Click on Site settings.
6. Scroll down to the Permissions section and click on Notifications.
7. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the Allowed to send notifications list.
8. Locate the specific offending website in this list. Click the three vertical dots next to its URL.
9. Select Remove from the dropdown menu.

Chrome will instantly sever the website’s notification privileges. The site will no longer be able to push alerts to your screen, and it will be forced to ask for permission again if you revisit it (assuming you haven’t globally blocked all prompts).
