How to Show the Battery Percentage on Your Mac

The Battery Monitoring Vector

By default, modern versions of macOS display a minimalist battery icon in the top-right corner of the menu bar. This icon provides a rough visual estimate of remaining power, slowly depleting as you work. However, for users operating remotely or managing heavy rendering tasks, a vague icon is entirely insufficient. Relying on a graphical estimation can easily result in the machine dying unexpectedly during a critical workflow.

How to Show the Exact Battery Percentage

You can force macOS to display the precise, numerical battery percentage permanently next to the standard icon.

1. Click the Apple Logo in the extreme top-left corner of the screen.
2. Select System Settings from the dropdown menu.
3. In the left-hand sidebar, scroll down and click on Control Centre.
4. Scroll down the main pane until you locate the section labelled Battery.
5. Find the toggle switch labelled Show Percentage.
6. Click the toggle to switch it to the On position (the switch will turn green).

The menu bar will instantly update to display a hard numerical value (e.g., 84%) directly to the left of the battery icon. This allows you to accurately monitor power consumption at a glance, without having to manually click the icon to check your status.
