How to Turn Off Auto-Brightness on iPhone

The Display Dimming Vector

The iPhone relies on an ambient light sensor to continuously monitor your environment. By default, iOS uses a feature known as Auto-Brightness to aggressively adjust the screen’s backlight—dimming it in dark rooms and boosting it in direct sunlight. While designed to extend battery life, this constant fluctuation can be visually distracting, and in specific scenarios (such as scanning barcodes or reading complex diagrams), it actively prevents the screen from remaining at maximum legibility.

How to Turn Off Auto-Brightness

Apple deliberately hides the Auto-Brightness toggle deep within the Accessibility menus, completely separate from the standard display settings.

1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
2. Scroll down and tap on Accessibility.
3. Tap on Display & Text Size.
4. Scroll to the very bottom of this long menu.
5. Locate the toggle switch labelled Auto-Brightness.
6. Tap the toggle to switch it to the Off position (the switch will turn grey).

Once disabled, your screen brightness will remain exactly where you manually set it in the Control Centre, completely ignoring any changes in environmental lighting.
