The Interruption Vector
Google Chrome features a deeply integrated, proprietary password management system. By default, every time you enter a new credential into a login form on any website, the browser intercepts the form submission and triggers an aggressive pop-up window asking if you want to save the password. For users who prefer to use dedicated, third-party password managers (such as 1Password or Bitwarden), this native prompt is highly intrusive and creates unnecessary interface clutter.
How to Disable Password Prompts
Disabling this feature prevents Chrome from ever asking to save your credentials again, allowing your third-party manager to operate without interference.
1. Open Google Chrome.
2. Click the three vertical dots in the extreme top-right corner to open the main menu.
3. Select Settings.
4. In the left-hand navigation pane, click on Autofill and passwords.
5. Click on Google Password Manager. This will open a new dedicated tab.
6. In the left-hand menu of the new tab, click Settings.
7. Locate the toggle switch labelled Offer to save passwords.
8. Click the toggle to switch it to the Off position (the switch will turn grey).
Chrome will immediately cease all password-saving interruptions across all websites.
