How to Disable Lock Screen Widgets on iPhone

The Widget Data Leak

By default, iOS allows users to customize their Lock Screen with highly informative “Widgets.” These small UI elements can display upcoming calendar appointments, fitness rings, current stock prices, or the battery levels of connected devices. While convenient, the operating system renders this data persistently, even when the iPhone is completely locked and secured with Face ID. This means anyone who picks up your phone or glances at it on a table can read the title of your next private meeting or monitor your financial portfolio without knowing your passcode. To ensure a strictly opaque security boundary, you must completely disable Lock Screen Widgets.

How to Disable Widgets on the Lock Screen

You can permanently secure your display via the Face ID & Passcode settings.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Face ID & Passcode (or Touch ID & Passcode).
  3. Enter your strict device passcode to authenticate.
  4. Scroll down to the section labeled “Allow Access When Locked.”
  5. Locate the toggle switch labeled Lock Screen Widgets.
  6. Toggle this switch to the Off position (the green background will disappear).

A Hardened Visual Perimeter

The change takes effect instantly. The iPhone will completely sever the bridge connecting the background Widget API to the Lock Screen UI renderer while the screen is locked. You can now leave your phone unattended; if a malicious actor wakes the screen, the operating system will absolutely refuse to display the widget blocks (they will appear blank or heavily redacted depending on the OS version). To view your calendar data or stock tickers, you are now strictly required to unlock the phone with Face ID first, guaranteeing absolute privacy for your contextual data.
