How to Disable Wallet and Apple Pay on the iPhone Lock Screen

The Lock Screen Vulnerability

By default, the iPhone allows you to access Apple Pay and your digital Wallet by rapidly double-clicking the side power button, even when the phone is completely locked. While incredibly convenient at a checkout counter, it is a significant privacy risk. Anyone holding your locked phone can double-click the button and instantly view your credit card icons, your transit cards, your boarding passes, and potentially your home address on shipping labels. If you demand absolute privacy, you must force the operating system to completely hide your financial data behind the passcode wall.

How to Turn Off Wallet on the Lock Screen

You can permanently block access to Apple Pay while the device is locked via the Face ID settings.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Face ID & Passcode (or Touch ID & Passcode).
  3. Enter your device’s master PIN code to access the secure menu.
  4. Scroll down to the section labeled “Allow Access When Locked.”
  5. Locate the toggle switch labeled Wallet.
  6. Toggle this switch to the Off position (the green background will disappear).

Secured Financials

The change takes effect instantly. The iPhone will completely sever the connection between the locked state and the Wallet application. If someone picks up your locked phone and double-clicks the side button, the operating system will absolutely refuse to display your credit cards. The phone will simply remain on the standard lock screen. To use Apple Pay, you are now strictly required to first authenticate with Face ID or your passcode to unlock the phone, guaranteeing your financial data is never exposed to a casual observer.
