The Hidden Advertisements
When you open the primary Settings app in Windows 11 to adjust your Wi-Fi or change your wallpaper, Microsoft will often inject what it calls “Suggested Content” directly into the menus. These appear as helpful “tips,” but they are essentially internal advertisements trying to convince you to use Microsoft Edge, sign up for a Microsoft 365 subscription, or connect your smartphone to your PC. For a power user attempting to rapidly configure a workstation, these injected marketing banners clutter the interface and waste valuable screen space. To maintain a purely functional, sterile control panel, you must disable the recommendation engine.
How to Turn Off Suggested Content in Settings
You can permanently strip the marketing banners from the control panel via the Privacy settings.
- Click the Start Menu and type Settings, or press the Windows Key + I.
- In the left-hand sidebar, click on Privacy & security.
- In the main window, under the “Windows permissions” section, click on General.
- Locate the toggle switch labeled “Show me suggested content in the Settings app.”
- Toggle this switch to the Off position.
A Sterile Control Panel
The change is instantaneous. Windows 11 will completely terminate the background connection to the Microsoft telemetry servers that generate these prompts. If you close the Settings app and reopen it, you will notice that all of the colorful “tips” and subscription reminders have instantly vanished. The Settings application will now function exactly as intended: as a raw, sterile interface for managing your computer’s hardware and software, completely free of corporate upselling.
