How to Disable Control Center on the iPhone Lock Screen

The Physical Security Breach

By default, iOS allows you to access the Control Center—the massive menu containing your Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, flashlight, and airplane mode toggles—by swiping down from the top right corner of the screen. Incredibly, Apple allows this swipe gesture to function even when the iPhone is completely locked and sitting on a table. This is a massive physical security flaw. If a thief steals your locked iPhone, they can simply swipe down, tap the airplane icon, and instantly sever the phone’s connection to the internet. This completely disables the “Find My” tracking network before you even realize the phone is missing. You must lock the Control Center behind your passcode.

How to Turn Off Control Center on the Lock Screen

You can permanently block access to the quick settings menu via the Face ID settings.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Face ID & Passcode (or Touch ID & Passcode).
  3. Enter your device’s passcode to gain access to the secure menu.
  4. Scroll down to the section labeled “Allow Access When Locked.”
  5. Locate the toggle switch labeled Control Center.
  6. Toggle this switch to the Off position (the green background will disappear).

A Secured Device

The change takes effect instantly. The iPhone will completely sever the swipe-down gesture from the lock screen. If an unauthorized person picks up your locked phone and aggressively swipes down from the corner, the screen will completely ignore the input. The Control Center will refuse to open, and the thief will be completely unable to enable Airplane Mode, ensuring your device remains connected to the tracking network.
