The Spotlight Clutter
When you swipe down on the home screen of an iPhone, it opens the Spotlight Search bar. By default, before you even type a single letter, Apple’s AI engine populates the screen with “Siri Suggestions.” It analyzes your daily habits and tries to guess exactly which apps you want to open or which contacts you want to text based on the time of day. While this predictive AI is occasionally useful, it constantly shifts your icons around and clutters the search interface. If you simply want a clean, blank search bar that only responds to the exact letters you type, you must disable the predictive engine.
How to Turn Off Siri Suggestions in Search
You can permanently sever the connection between the AI tracking engine and the Spotlight interface via the Siri settings.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and tap on Siri & Search (or Apple Intelligence & Siri on newer devices).
- Scroll down to the section labeled “Before Searching.”
- Locate the toggle switch labeled Show Suggestions.
- Toggle this switch to the Off position (the green background will disappear).
- Optional: Also turn off Show Recents directly below it to hide your recently opened apps from the search page.
A Clean Search Interface
The change takes effect instantly. The iPhone will completely terminate the predictive rendering pipeline for the Spotlight menu. Now, when you swipe down on your home screen, you will be greeted by a perfectly clean, blank page and an empty search bar. The phone will no longer attempt to guess your next move, ensuring a faster, clutter-free search experience.
