The Illusion of Speed
Windows 11 relies heavily on animations to make the operating system feel modern and fluid. When you minimize a window, it doesn’t just disappear; it shrinks down and slides into the taskbar. When you open the Start Menu, it elegantly glides upward. While this looks beautiful, these animations take milliseconds to complete. If you are a power user who works incredibly fast, or if you are running Windows 11 on a severely underpowered laptop with integrated graphics, these forced animations make the computer feel sluggish and unresponsive. By disabling the animations, you can force the operating system to react to your clicks instantaneously.
How to Disable System Animations
You can strip all the visual flair away via the accessibility settings.
- Click the Start Menu and type Settings, or press the Windows Key + I.
- In the left-hand sidebar, click on Accessibility.
- In the main window, click on Visual effects.
- Look for the toggle switch labeled Animation effects.
- Toggle this switch to the Off position.
Instantaneous Response
The change takes effect immediately. Try minimizing a window or opening the Start Menu. Instead of sliding or fading, the elements will instantly “snap” onto the screen with zero transition time. While the desktop environment will look slightly less elegant, your computer will feel significantly faster, as you no longer have to wait for a 300-millisecond graphical animation to finish before you can click your next target.
