How to Disable Siri Suggestions in iOS Search

The Cluttered Search Screen

When you swipe down from the middle of your iPhone home screen to access the global Search bar (Spotlight), Apple automatically populates the space below the keyboard with a row of “Siri Suggestions.” These are icons of apps that iOS guesses you might want to open based on your daily habits (e.g., showing the Maps app just before your evening commute). While sometimes accurate, this predictive row often just clutters the search screen and occasionally suggests apps you would rather keep private. If you prefer a clean, blank search screen that only reacts when you actually type something, you must disable the predictive engine.

How to Turn Off Siri Suggestions in Search

You can revoke Siri’s permission to populate the search screen via the master Siri settings.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Siri & Search.
  3. Scroll down to the section specifically labeled “Before Searching.”
  4. You will see a toggle switch labeled Show Suggestions.
  5. Tap the switch to turn it Off (the green background will disappear).

The Clean Interface

The change is instantaneous. Return to your home screen and swipe down. The search bar will appear with the keyboard, but the space immediately below it will be perfectly empty. Your iPhone will no longer try to guess what you are about to do, allowing you to use the search function purely as a manual tool.
