The Notification Spam
Microsoft aggressively markets its own software ecosystem directly inside the Windows 11 operating system. As you use your computer, you will occasionally receive slide-out notifications in the bottom right corner of your screen offering “Tips and Suggestions.” These pop-ups might suggest you try the new Edge browser, prompt you to link your Android phone to the PC, or highlight a feature in Microsoft Office you aren’t using. For experienced power users who already know exactly how they want to use their computer, these pop-ups are not helpful; they are annoying advertisements masquerading as technical support. You can permanently silence them.
How to Turn Off Tips and Suggestions
You can disable these specific marketing pop-ups by digging into the core notification settings.
- Click the Start Menu and type Settings, or press the Windows Key + I.
- In the left-hand sidebar, ensure you are on the System tab.
- In the main window, click on Notifications.
- Scroll all the way down to the very bottom of the Notifications page.
- Click to expand the Additional settings section.
- Look for the checkbox labeled “Get tips and suggestions when I use Windows.”
- Click the checkbox to completely remove the checkmark.
Silencing the Welcome Experience
While you are in that menu, you will also see a checkbox labeled “Offer suggestions on how I can set up my device.” This checkbox controls the massive, full-screen “Welcome to Windows” prompt that occasionally hijacks your computer after a major software update. Uncheck this box as well. With both boxes unchecked, Windows 11 will permanently stop marketing its own features to you, allowing you to work in peace.
