How to Extract a Specific Page from a PDF Using Google Chrome

Why Extract a Single Page from a PDF?

PDF documents are often large and contain dozens or hundreds of pages. If you only need a single specific page—such as a specific tax form from a larger packet, one page of a lengthy contract, or a single diagram from a manual—sending or storing the entire file is inefficient and wastes space. While professional software like Adobe Acrobat Pro offers extensive tools for splitting and extracting PDFs, you do not need to buy expensive software or use questionable third-party websites to perform this task. You can easily extract any page from a PDF and save it as a new, separate file using nothing but Google Chrome’s built-in PDF viewer and print engine.

How to Extract a Page Using “Print to PDF”

Google Chrome features a robust native “Save as PDF” virtual printer. By using this tool, you can isolate the exact page you need.

  1. Open Google Chrome on your computer.
  2. Locate the large PDF file on your computer. Drag and drop the PDF file directly into an open Chrome window. Chrome will open the PDF in its built-in viewer.
  3. Click the Printer icon in the top right corner of the PDF viewer, or press Ctrl + P (Cmd + P on Mac) to open the Print dialog box.
  4. In the Print dialog box, look for the Destination dropdown menu at the top.
  5. Click the dropdown and select Save as PDF (do not select your actual physical printer).

Selecting and Saving the Specific Page

Now that Chrome is ready to create a new PDF, you simply tell it which page to include.

  1. Below the Destination dropdown, look for the Pages option.
  2. By default, it is set to “All.” Click the dropdown and change it to Custom.
  3. A text box will appear. Type the exact page number you want to extract (e.g., type 5 to extract only page 5).
  4. The preview pane on the left will update to show only that single page.
  5. Click the blue Save button at the bottom of the dialog box.
  6. A standard file explorer window will open. Name your new file (e.g., “Contract_Page_5.pdf”), choose where to save it, and click Save.

You now have a brand new, perfectly formatted PDF document containing only the specific page you selected, extracted entirely for free using Google Chrome.
