Why Disable App Ratings and Reviews?
If you regularly use an iPhone or iPad, you are likely familiar with the sudden, screen-blocking pop-up that asks, “Enjoying [App Name]?” followed by a prompt to rate the app or write a review in the App Store. App developers use this API aggressively to boost their App Store rankings, often triggering the pop-up right in the middle of a game level, after a successful purchase, or when you are trying to read an article. While leaving feedback is helpful for developers, these constant interruptions are frustrating and break the user experience. Fortunately, Apple provides a global setting to permanently block all apps from requesting ratings and reviews.
How to Turn Off Rating Prompts Globally
You do not need to hunt for this setting inside every individual app; you can disable the API entirely through the main iOS Settings app.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Scroll down and tap on App Store.
- In the App Store settings menu, scroll down to the section labeled “Reviews and Ratings” (or simply look for the toggle near the bottom of the list).
- Locate the toggle labeled In-App Ratings & Reviews.
- Tap the switch to turn it Off (the green background will disappear).
What Happens Next?
By toggling this switch to the off position, you are explicitly denying the iOS operating system permission to display the standard Apple review prompt. From this point forward, no third-party application on your device will be able to interrupt your usage to ask for a star rating. If you genuinely want to leave a positive or negative review for an app you love or hate, you can still open the App Store manually, search for the app, and leave your feedback there at your own convenience.
