How to Disable the Mini Share Menu Pop-Up When Selecting Text in Microsoft Edge

Why Disable the Mini Menu in Microsoft Edge?

Microsoft Edge is packed with productivity features, one of which is the “Mini menu.” When you highlight text on a webpage, Edge automatically displays a small, floating pop-up menu offering options to Copy, Search, Define, or Share the selected text. While some users find this convenient, it can be incredibly intrusive if you frequently select text while reading, coding, or simply navigating a page. The pop-up can block the text you are trying to read and accidentally trigger unwanted actions. Fortunately, you can easily disable this feature in Edge’s settings.

How to Turn Off the Mini Menu on Text Selection

Disabling the pop-up requires navigating to the appearance and accessibility settings within the browser.

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Click the three horizontal dots (…) in the top-right corner of the browser window to open the main menu.
  3. Scroll down and click on Settings.
  4. In the left-hand sidebar menu, click on Appearance.
  5. Scroll down through the appearance settings until you find the section labeled Context menus.
  6. Look for the option that says: “Show mini menu when selecting text”.
  7. Toggle the switch next to this option to the Off position.

How to Disable the Mini Menu in PDFs Specifically

Microsoft Edge is also a highly capable PDF reader, and the mini menu behaves similarly when highlighting text within PDF documents. If you only want to disable the menu for standard web pages but keep it for PDFs (or vice versa), Edge provides a separate toggle.

  1. Navigate back to the same Context menus section in the Appearance settings (Settings > Appearance).
  2. Directly below the general text selection toggle, you will find an option labeled: “Show mini menu when selecting text in PDFs”.
  3. Toggle this switch to the Off position to prevent the pop-up from appearing when highlighting text inside a PDF file.

Alternative Ways to Access Context Options

Once you disable the mini menu, you will not lose any functionality. If you need to copy, search, or define a highlighted word, simply select the text and right-click it with your mouse. The standard, full-sized context menu will appear, containing all the same options without popping up automatically and blocking your view.
