The Intrusive Vault
Windows 11 is deeply integrated with Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Authenticator. If you use a Microsoft account to log into your PC, the operating system attempts to unify your digital identity. Consequently, when you click on a password field in a web browser or a desktop application, Windows might automatically display a massive pop-up suggesting you use a password saved in your Microsoft account. While convenient if you are fully invested in the Microsoft ecosystem, it is highly distracting and intrusive if you rely on a dedicated third-party password manager (like Bitwarden or 1Password) and want Microsoft to stay completely out of your login process.
Disabling the Suggestions
To keep your login screens clean and stop Windows 11 from automatically suggesting passwords from its internal vault, you must disable the autofill feature in the system settings.
Press the Windows Key, type Settings, and press Enter. In the left-hand navigation sidebar, click on Accounts. In the main right-hand panel, look for a section labelled Passkeys or Sign-in options (this varies slightly depending on your exact Windows 11 build). Scroll down to the “Additional settings” area. Look for an option specifically related to “Save passwords” or “Autofill passwords for apps and websites.” If you see a toggle switch here, turn it Off. Additionally, if the pop-ups are primarily occurring within a browser, you must open Microsoft Edge, go to Settings > Profiles > Passwords, and toggle off “Offer to save passwords” to completely silence the Microsoft vault.
