The Distracting Disappearance
When you maximize an application in macOS by clicking the green traffic-light button, the operating system transitions the window into a dedicated “Full Screen” Space. To maximize the immersive experience, macOS automatically hides the menu bar at the very top of your screen. To access essential functions like File, Edit, or View, you must slam your mouse cursor against the top edge of the monitor, wait for the menu bar to slide down, click your option, and then wait for it to slide back up. For productivity applications like Logic Pro or Final Cut, this constant sliding animation is highly distracting and slows down your workflow.
Pinning the Menu Bar
If you rely heavily on menu bar commands, you can force macOS to permanently pin the menu bar to the top of your display, even when you are operating an application in absolute Full Screen mode.
Open the System Settings application via the Apple menu. In the left-hand sidebar, navigate to the Control Centre menu. Scroll down the main pane until you locate the section specifically dedicated to the “Menu Bar.” You will find a dropdown option labelled Automatically hide and show the menu bar. By default, this is likely set to “In Full Screen Only.” Click the dropdown menu and change the setting to Never. The change is applied instantly. Now, when you expand any application into Full Screen mode, the top menu bar will remain permanently visible and instantly accessible, drastically speeding up your navigation.
