The Intrusive Data Collection Prompts
Google Chrome features a powerful Autofill engine designed to make online shopping and form completion faster. Whenever you type an address into a shipping or billing form on a website and click submit, Chrome intercepts the data. It then pops up a dialog box near the address bar asking if you would like Chrome to save this address to your Google Account for future use. This is controlled by the “Enable Autofill address save prompts” feature.
While this is convenient if you are setting up a new computer, it becomes incredibly annoying for users who prefer to use dedicated password managers (like 1Password or Bitwarden) to handle their personal data. If you already have your addresses saved securely in a third-party extension, Chrome’s constant nagging to save the same data into its own ecosystem is an intrusive disruption to your workflow. To stop the browser from begging for your personal information every time you check out, you must disable these save prompts.
How to Turn Off Address Save Prompts
You can disable these specific Autofill pop-ups via the experimental flags menu.
- Open Google Chrome.
- Click inside the main address bar at the top of the browser.
- Type
chrome://flagsand press Enter. - A page titled “Experiments” will load.
- In the search bar at the top, type Enable Autofill address save prompts.
- The specific flag will appear highlighted in yellow. Next to it is a dropdown menu.
- Change the dropdown menu setting from “Enabled” or “Default” to Disabled.
- Click the blue Relaunch button at the bottom of the screen.
Upon restarting, Chrome will stop analyzing your form submissions for address data and will permanently cease popping up those intrusive dialog boxes asking to save your physical location to your Google profile.
