Why Is Google Calendar Sending Duplicate Notifications?
If your Android phone vibrates twice for every upcoming event, you are likely receiving duplicate notifications. This commonly occurs because you have the official Google Calendar app installed, but your phone’s built-in, manufacturer-provided calendar app (such as Samsung Calendar) is also syncing with your Google account.
Both apps recognize the event and both apps simultaneously trigger an alert. To stop the double notifications, you simply need to silence the calendar app you do not actively use.
How to Stop Duplicate Calendar Notifications on Android
The most effective way to solve this is to disable notifications for the secondary calendar app at the system level.
- Open the Settings app on your Android smartphone.
- Tap on Apps (or “Apps & notifications” depending on your device).
- Scroll through the list of installed applications and find the calendar app you want to silence (for example, the default “Calendar” app that came with your phone, not “Google Calendar”).
- Tap on the secondary calendar app to open its App Info page.
- Tap on Notifications.
- Toggle the main switch at the top of the screen to the Off position (usually labelled “Allow notifications” or “Show notifications”).
By completely blocking notifications from the duplicate app, your phone will now only alert you once per event, relying solely on the primary Google Calendar application.
