How to Stop Windows 11 from Automatically Opening the Magnifier

The Magnifier is a powerful accessibility tool built into Windows 11 that allows users to zoom in on specific parts of the screen. While essential for users with visual impairments, it can be incredibly jarring if it turns on automatically. If you share a computer with someone who uses the tool, or if you accidentally triggered a keyboard shortcut, you might find the Magnifier automatically launching itself full-screen every single time you boot up your PC or log into your user account. Fortunately, you can easily stop this tool from launching itself automatically.

How to Stop the Magnifier from Opening on Startup

You can disable the automatic launch behaviors directly within the Windows Accessibility settings.

  1. Click the Start Button and select the Settings gear icon (or press the Windows Key + I).
  2. In the left-hand sidebar menu, click on Accessibility.
  3. Under the “Vision” section, click on Magnifier.
  4. Look for the section titled “Start Magnifier.”
  5. You will see two toggle switches here: Start Magnifier before sign-in and Start Magnifier after sign-in.
  6. Click both toggle switches to move them to the Off position.

The Magnifier will no longer aggressively launch itself when you start your computer. If you ever need to use the tool temporarily in the future, you can instantly summon it at any time by simply pressing the Windows Key + Plus Sign (+) on your keyboard, and close it again by pressing the Windows Key + Esc.
