In Microsoft Excel, whenever you select a range of cells containing data, a small button featuring a lightning bolt icon instantly appears at the bottom-right corner of your selection. This is the “Quick Analysis” toolbar, designed to give you rapid access to conditional formatting, charts, and sparklines. While helpful for visualising data on the fly, this button often gets in the way of the bottom-right fill handle, making it frustrating if you are simply trying to drag and copy formulas down a column. If you prefer to use the main Ribbon for your formatting needs, you can turn this hovering button off entirely.
How to Disable the Quick Analysis Toolbar
You can hide this button via Excel’s primary options menu.
- Open Microsoft Excel.
- Click on the File tab located in the top-left corner of the window.
- Look at the very bottom of the left-hand blue sidebar and click on Options. (If you have a smaller screen, you may need to click ‘More…’ first to reveal Options).
- The “Excel Options” dialogue box will appear. Ensure you are on the General tab in the left-hand menu.
- Look at the very first section at the top, titled “User Interface options.”
- Locate the checkbox labelled Show Quick Analysis options on selection.
- Click this checkbox to uncheck it.
- Click the OK button at the bottom right of the window.
The change takes effect immediately. You can now highlight massive grids of data, and the bottom right corner will remain perfectly clean, allowing unobstructed access to the fill handle.
