When you type a website name (like digitash.com) into Google Chrome, the browser has to translate that human-readable name into a numerical IP address (like 192.168.1.1) using a DNS server. To make websites load faster, Chrome permanently memorizes these IP addresses in a hidden internal database called the DNS Cache.
If a website recently changed its servers, Chrome might stubbornly try to connect to the old, dead IP address stored in its cache, resulting in a frustrating “This site can’t be reached” error, even when the internet works fine on your phone. To fix this, you must safely erase Chrome’s internal routing memory.
How to Safely Erase the Google Chrome DNS Cache
You must use Chrome’s hidden internal network configuration page to flush the host resolver.
- Open the Google Chrome browser.
- Click inside the top URL address bar, carefully type the following exact text, and press Enter:
chrome://net-internals/#dns - You are now looking at the internal DNS diagnostic page.
- Click the button labeled Clear host cache.
- Note: Chrome does not display a confirmation message or a pop-up when you click this button. It simply executes the command instantly in the background.
- To ensure all network sockets are also cleared, look at the left-hand sidebar on that same page and click on Sockets.
- Click the button labeled Flush socket pools.
You have successfully wiped Chrome’s internal address book. The next time you try to visit the broken website, Chrome will be forced to ask the global DNS servers for the brand new, correct IP address, immediately resolving your loading errors.
