How to Disable the Windows 11 ‘Quick Settings’ Keyboard Shortcut (Win + A)

In Windows 11, pressing the Windows Key + A shortcut slides out the Quick Settings panel (the Action Center) from the bottom-right corner of the screen, granting you fast access to your Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, volume, and brightness controls.

However, if you type quickly or rely heavily on keyboard shortcuts, it is very easy to accidentally clip the “A” key when attempting to press Windows Key + S (Search) or Windows Key + Z (Snap Layouts). If you are in the middle of a full-screen application or a presentation, accidentally deploying the Quick Settings panel is incredibly distracting. If you prefer to simply click the network/volume cluster on the taskbar with your mouse, you can disable this keyboard shortcut.

How to Disable the Windows Key + A Shortcut

You must use Microsoft’s official PowerToys utility to intercept and nullify the shortcut.

  1. Download and install Microsoft PowerToys from the Microsoft Store or GitHub.
  2. Launch the PowerToys application from your Start menu.
  3. In the left-hand navigation sidebar, click on Keyboard Manager.
  4. Ensure the “Enable Keyboard Manager” toggle switch is turned On.
  5. Click the Remap a shortcut button in the main window.
  6. A new configuration window will appear. Click the plus (+) icon to create a new rule.
  7. Under the “Shortcut” column on the left, click the Type button and press Windows Key + A.
  8. Under the “Mapped To” column on the right, click the drop-down menu and select Disable from the very top of the list.
  9. Click OK at the top right of the window.

The Windows Key + A shortcut is now dead. As long as the PowerToys utility is active, pressing those keys will result in absolutely no action. The Quick Settings panel will remain hidden until you intentionally click it with your cursor.
