When you open your browsing history in Google Chrome, you might notice a feature called “Journeys.” Instead of simply showing a chronological list of every website you visited, Chrome attempts to group your past searches and page visits by topic. If you were looking at flights to Paris three days ago, Chrome aggregates all those related pages into a “Travel” journey.
While this is intended to help you pick up where you left off on research projects, many users find it confusing. If you are accustomed to scanning a strict chronological list to find a specific page you visited yesterday, the Journeys clustering algorithm can hide that link inside an unrelated topic block. If you want a purely chronological history page, you can disable the Journeys feature.
How to Turn Off Chrome Journeys in History
You can disable the topic-clustering engine directly from Chrome’s History settings.
- Open the Google Chrome browser.
- Click the three vertical dots (⋮) in the top-right corner of the window.
- Hover over History in the drop-down menu, then click on History from the flyout menu (or simply press Ctrl + H / Cmd + Y).
- On the left-hand sidebar of the History page, you will see a tab labelled Turn off Journeys (or a toggle switch on newer versions).
- If you do not see it there, look at the very top of the main History list; there is often a toggle switch explicitly labelled Show Journeys.
- Toggle it to the Off position, or click the “Turn off Journeys” button.
Your history page will instantly revert to a traditional, flat list. Every page you visited will be displayed in exact chronological order by time and date, without Chrome attempting to guess how your browsing sessions relate to one another.
