When you use a brand new Windows 11 computer, the operating system is heavily loaded with visual animations. Windows slide smoothly across the desktop, menus fade into view, and taskbar icons bounce when you click them. While these animations make the operating system feel fluid and modern, they require processing power and introduce microscopic delays into everything you do.
If you are running Windows 11 on an older laptop with a weak processor, these animations can cause the entire system to stutter. Even on a high-end gaming PC, power users often prefer the instantaneous, snappy response of windows appearing instantly rather than waiting for a fade-in effect. You can completely disable these visual animations.
How to Turn Off Visual Animations in Windows 11
You can strip away the desktop animations directly from the Accessibility menu.
- Click the Start button and select the Settings gear icon (or press Windows Key + I).
- In the left-hand navigation pane, click on Accessibility.
- In the main window on the right, click on Visual effects.
- Look for the toggle switch labelled Animation effects.
- Click the toggle switch to turn it Off.
The change is applied instantly. Try minimizing and maximizing a window, or opening the Start menu. The fluid sliding and fading transitions are completely gone, replaced by a harsh, instantaneous snap. While it may look slightly older and less polished, your computer will immediately feel significantly faster and more responsive.
