How to Completely Disable ‘Emergency Alert History’ System-Wide on Android

The Emergency Alert History feature on Android is designed to keep a log of all previous Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs), such as AMBER alerts, severe weather warnings, and presidential alerts. While this history log can be useful for reviewing past notifications, some users prefer to clear or disable it to maintain a cleaner notification environment, save minimal storage space, or address privacy concerns regarding location-based alert logging on shared devices.

This guide outlines the steps to completely disable the logging of Emergency Alert History and clear existing data on your Android device.

How to Disable ‘Emergency Alert History’ on Android

The exact phrasing of these menus may vary slightly depending on your device manufacturer (e.g., Samsung Galaxy vs. Google Pixel), but the core steps remain consistent across modern Android versions:

  1. Unlock your Android device and open the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down and select Safety & emergency. (On some older devices, this may be located under Apps & notifications > Advanced > Emergency alerts).
  3. Tap on Wireless emergency alerts.
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and tap on Emergency alert history.
  5. If your device supports disabling the history log directly, toggle the Keep alert history switch to the Off position.

Clearing Existing Alert History Data

If you cannot find a toggle to disable the logging, or if you simply want to wipe the existing data, you can clear the storage of the system app responsible for alerts:

  1. Open the Settings app and navigate to Apps or Apps & notifications.
  2. Tap See all apps to view the full list.
  3. Tap the three-dot menu icon in the top right corner and select Show system.
  4. Scroll down or use the search bar to find and tap on Cell Broadcasts or Wireless emergency alerts.
  5. Select Storage & cache.
  6. Tap Clear storage (or Clear data) and confirm the action.

This will permanently delete all previously logged emergency alerts from your device’s history.
