Microsoft Edge includes a dedicated “Gaming” feature set, encompassing a Gaming homepage on the New Tab Page (NTP), a dedicated Gaming button on the toolbar, and integrations with Xbox Cloud Gaming and PC Game Pass. While this serves as a value-add for consumer devices, it introduces significant distractions in a corporate, educational, or highly regulated enterprise environment. Leaving this feature enabled encourages non-productive web browsing and clutters the browser’s interface with consumer-focused entertainment links.
This guide explains how to completely disable the Gaming features system-wide in Microsoft Edge using Group Policy, ensuring a professional and distraction-free browsing experience for end-users.
Disable the Gaming Features via Group Policy
To enforce a strict block that removes the Gaming button from the toolbar and disables the Gaming feed on the New Tab Page, we must deploy an administrative template. Note that this requires Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise, or Education editions.
- Log into Windows 11 with an Administrator account.
- Press the Windows Key + R to open the Run dialogue box.
- Type
gpedit.mscand press Enter to launch the Local Group Policy Editor. - In the left-hand navigation pane, strictly follow this exact path:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Microsoft Edge - In the right-hand pane, locate the policy named Allow Gaming features.
