Features like Automatic Framing, Eye Contact correction, and advanced Background Blur are designed to make you look and sound better during video calls, operating at the hardware level before the video feed ever reaches applications like Microsoft Teams or Zoom.
While these effects are impressive, they are not always desirable. If you are a streamer, a content creator, or simply someone participating in a casual call where visual fidelity is more important than AI manipulation, Windows Studio Effects can interfere. Eye contact correction can look unnatural, and automatic framing can crop out important background elements. If you prefer to send a raw, unedited feed from your webcam to your software, you can completely disable Windows Studio Effects globally in Windows 11.
Why Disable Windows Studio Effects?
There are several scenarios where turning off these AI camera enhancements is beneficial:
- Unnatural Visuals: The Eye Contact feature uses AI to simulate you looking directly at the lens, which can appear uncanny or robotic during expressive conversations.
- Software Conflicts: Applications like OBS Studio, Zoom, and Discord have their own advanced background blur and framing tools. Stacking Windows Studio Effects on top of these can cause severe performance drops and visual artifacts.
- Resource Management: Although offloaded to the NPU, disabling the continuous AI analysis of your video feed can slightly reduce system temperature and improve battery life during long calls.
How to Turn Off ‘Windows Studio Effects’ in Windows 11
Because Windows Studio Effects operates at the system level, you cannot turn it off within your video conferencing app. You must disable it through the primary Windows 11 Settings app or the Quick Settings menu.
- Open the Settings app on your Windows 11 PC (press Windows Key + I).
- In the left-hand sidebar, click on Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Cameras from the list of devices.
- Click on your active webcam under the “Connected cameras” list.
- Scroll down to the Camera Effects section.
- Toggle off the master switch for Windows Studio Effects. Alternatively, you can selectively disable individual toggles for Automatic Framing, Eye Contact, and Background Effects if you wish to keep some features active.
Once disabled, your webcam will immediately revert to passing a raw, unaltered video and audio feed to your applications. You can now rely entirely on the built-in settings of your preferred video conferencing or recording software without Windows 11 interfering.
