Microsoft Edge includes a prominent Copilot button (formerly Bing Chat) built directly into the top right corner of the browser’s toolbar. While this AI assistant can be useful for summarizing web pages or generating text, many users prefer a clean, uncluttered browser interface without integrated AI features.
If you don’t use Copilot and want to remove the large blue button from your Edge toolbar, you can easily disable it in the browser settings.
How to Remove the Copilot Button from Edge
Removing the Copilot icon only requires a few clicks within the Edge settings menu:
- Open Microsoft Edge on your Windows or Mac computer.
- Click the three-dot menu icon (Settings and more) in the top right corner of the browser window.
- Scroll down and select Settings from the drop-down menu.
- In the left-hand sidebar, click on Sidebar.
- Under the “App and notification settings” section, click on Copilot.
- Toggle the switch next to Show Copilot to the Off position.
The Copilot button will instantly vanish from the top right corner of your browser. You do not need to restart Edge for the change to take effect.
How to Re-enable Copilot Later
Disabling the Copilot button does not uninstall or permanently break the feature. If you decide you want to use Microsoft’s AI assistant in the future, you can simply repeat the steps above and toggle “Show Copilot” back to the On position.
By removing features you don’t use, you can reclaim space on your toolbar and enjoy a simpler, less distracting browsing experience.
