When you are preparing a sensitive PDF document (like a legal contract, a financial ledger, or a medical record) for public distribution on a macOS workstation, simply drawing a black rectangle over sensitive text is a catastrophic security failure. Standard shapes can be easily deleted or moved by the recipient, exposing the hidden data payload. To mathematically obliterate the text data from the file structure, you must deploy the true Redaction engine within the native Preview application.
Initializing the Redaction Matrix
The Preview application contains an advanced, destructive redaction engine. When executed, this engine does not merely cover the text; it violently rips the text strings out of the PDF vector matrix and replaces them with a permanent, un-selectable black void.
- Locate your highly sensitive PDF file in Finder and double-click to open it natively in Preview.
