If you use Google Keep on a desktop web browser (keep.google.com) to manage your entire professional workflow, manually clicking the mouse to create new notes, archive old tasks, or change background colors is incredibly inefficient. Every time you move your hand off the keyboard to grab the mouse, you break your mental flow and slow down your typing speed. To achieve true power-user status and navigate your database at lightning speed, you must master Google Keep’s hidden ecosystem of keyboard shortcuts.
How to Access the Cheat Sheet
Before memorizing the individual keys, you should know how to summon the built-in reference guide. If you are ever confused or forget a shortcut, simply open Google Keep in your browser and press the Question Mark (?) key (Shift + /). A dark overlay will instantly appear on the screen, displaying a comprehensive cheat sheet of every single active keyboard shortcut.
Essential Navigation Shortcuts
These shortcuts completely eliminate the need to scroll or click when moving between different tasks.
- J: Press ‘J’ to instantly jump your selection to the next note on the dashboard.
- K: Press ‘K’ to instantly jump your selection to the previous note.
- Enter: Once a note is highlighted (using J or K), press Enter to physically open it and begin editing the text.
- Esc (Escape): Press the Escape key to close the active note, save all changes, and return to the main dashboard overview.
Creation and Action Shortcuts
These shortcuts allow you to execute complex actions without touching the mouse.
- C: Press ‘C’ anywhere on the dashboard to instantly create a brand new, blank text note. Your cursor will automatically jump into the text field so you can immediately begin typing.
- L: Press ‘L’ to instantly create a brand new list (checkbox) note.
- E: When a note is highlighted, press ‘E’ to instantly Archive it and hide it from the main dashboard.
- # (Shift + 3): When a note is highlighted, press the pound sign to instantly permanently delete it. (It will be moved to the Trash bin, where it will auto-purge in 7 days).
- / (Forward Slash): Press the forward slash key to instantly throw your cursor into the master Search bar at the top of the screen.
By keeping your hands locked on the home row and utilizing ‘C’ to create notes, ‘J’/’K’ to navigate, and ‘E’ to archive, you can clear out an entire inbox of 50 tasks in a fraction of the time it would take using a mouse.
