How to Change the Windows 11 Taskbar Alignment from Center to Left

When Microsoft released Windows 11, they completely overhauled the aesthetics of the desktop, drawing heavy inspiration from macOS. The most polarizing change was shifting the Start button and all pinned application icons from the traditional bottom-left corner to the absolute dead center of the screen.

If you have spent the last twenty years relying on muscle memory to flick your mouse aggressively to the bottom-left corner to launch the Start menu, this new centered alignment is incredibly frustrating. Fortunately, Microsoft included a hidden toggle to revert this change and restore the classic Windows 10 layout.

How to Move the Taskbar to the Left

You can adjust this alignment directly from the taskbar itself; you do not need to navigate through the main Settings app.

  1. Find an empty, blank spot on your Windows 11 Taskbar (avoid clicking on any application icons).
  2. Right-click the empty space.
  3. A small menu will pop up containing a single option labeled Taskbar settings. Click it.
  4. The Settings app will open directly to the “Personalization > Taskbar” page.
  5. Scroll down to the very bottom of this menu and click on the section labeled Taskbar behaviors to expand it.
  6. Look for the setting labeled Taskbar alignment.
  7. Click the dropdown menu next to it (which currently says “Center”).
  8. Select Left from the dropdown list.

The moment you click “Left,” the Start button and all your pinned application icons will instantly slide across the screen and dock themselves firmly in the classic bottom-left corner.

Your muscle memory will now work perfectly again. You can close the Settings app, as the alignment change is permanently saved across all future reboots.
